From my 2026 solo show "The Winter of our Discontent," in which I paired my paintings of the Log Lady from the David Lynch show 'Twin Peaks' with a sound element - voicemails from 50+ American women and people AFAB, giving their opinion of JD Vance's infamous "childless cat ladies" statements.
In the backdrop of these Log Lady pieces I included a gamut of symbolism, including witchery, Woody Guthrie's phrase "This machine kills fascists,” suffragism, Ruth Bader Ginsberg's iconic collars, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Size: 8.5" x 11" // 21.5cm x 28cm
OR
11" x 14" // 28cm x 36cm
* For my 4 largest paintings in this Log Lady series I am also offering a Limited Edition print, matted to 16" x 20". These are special in that they are printed on a watercolor-texture fine art paper, so they mimic original watercolor paintings, AND I am limiting these prints to an edition of 50. *

"The horrors persist, but so do I" (2025)Despite the attempts of feminists, the conjunction between evil and the feminine seems unbroken. Established as secondary, derivative, and hence inferior, women have been long suspected of being the source of human - but specifically, masculine - miseries, always in cahoots with the forces of destruction.
Mistrusted as seductive and beguiling, women are also often thought of as vengeful, manipulative, and even malevolent. We are condemned not only for what we do, but also for what we fail to do; those who harbour, lie for, and couple with nefarious men are seen to have failed in our duty as gatekeepers of male morality.
At the same time, sometimes women have been put on a pedestal and lauded as “ideals of purity and dedication,” but these paragons only prove the reality that the average woman is imperfect, and can never live up to this ideal. Mischievous, beguiling, seductive, lascivious, unruly, carping, vengeful, and manipulative: these are only a few of the epithets present in cultures and literatures across the world.
When women themselves are accused of evil we are typically judged more harshly than their male counterparts, as evil acts committed by women are seen to transgress not just legal and moral boundaries, but also those imposed by gender.
“A wanton woman is the figure of imperfection; in nature an ape, in quality a wagtail, in countenance a witch, and in condition a kind of devil.” - Nicholas Breton (poet and prose writer of the English Renaissance, 1615)
