Please note: my original painting is both the watercolor lake scene and the ink drawing on the white mat around it. So the print you'll receive has the black border line printed in it, to delineate the edge of the mat/ink drawing.

In May I was fortunate enough to do an Artist Residency on Sapelo Island, and this is one of the pieces I created after my visit.

On Sapelo Island, off the Georgia coast and accessible only by boat, there is a community known as Gullah-Geechee peoples (descendants of enslaved Africans). In 2023 the McIntosh County commissioners made a controversial decision to double the size of homes allowed in their tiny Hogg Hummock community.

Happily, in early 2026, county residents were able to petition and vote to override that zoning decision!I used gold leaf in my piece to reference Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold-lacquer. It symbolizes the beauty of imperfection, resilience, and growth through adversity.
